Father Tells The Process of Learning that His Son Has Asperger's Syndrome

Josh, over at Modern Mormon Men the Manly Mommy Blog provides a heartfelt recounting of how their family came to understand that one of their sons has Asperger's Syndrome and how it has affected their family. He recounts some advice given to him by a friend:

“A diagnosis is just a word on a piece of paper. Your son is the same person that he is today and that he will always be. The word doesn’t change that. But you and your wife were given stewardship over him by a loving Heavenly Father. You are the perfect people to help guide him though his life.”

Great post--I'm glad he mentioned getting rid of the word "retarded". Now to just put the person first too :) Children with special needs.....but--good post--and I'm glad he mentioned Parenthood too--I've loved that show--have even discussed it with my students (future teachers of students with special needs) :)
