My four year old Abigail

I was so excited to find this site to share with other families going through some of the same difficulties as ours. My four year old daughter has autism and church is the most stressful part of our week. I would love some advice. My blog is www.conqueringautism.blogspot.com.
Some of the older members don't seem to understand autism and think we should discipline Abby more, there are escape issues while we are on classes, and meltdowns regularly. She is just learning to speak. Despite our difficulties she is very loving, happy, and sweet.

Abby

I'm a former teacher, turned writer, currently working on an article for LDS Living on making adaptations for children with special needs in Primary. I have a child with special needs so this article has personal relevance to me, but I need the input of other parents, teachers and leaders to really flesh out the piece.

I was touched by your honest discussion of the challenges and joys you experience with Abby. Would you be willing to talk with me either via phone interview or e-mail about challenges you've experienced in Primary and how leaders can help?

Sincerely,

Julie Christensen
